SAFARI SAFETY
Q:
Will my
Fiancé or family be safe on Safari?
A: It must be remembered at all times that the African
Wildlife that you see, IS WILD, and must not be approached on
foot unless with an experienced African Safari guide. Stay in
your vehicle and if approached by an Elephant, on of the Big
Five, make a hasty but gentle retreat, this is his domain.
Don’t swim in rivers, especially if it is
known that Hippopotamus or crocodiles live in the area.
Don’t feed the animals, this is very
dangerous and can cause the African wildlife, like the Big
Five to become reliant on man, with Ecological
ramifications.
Don’t walk bare foot, when on an exotic
Southern African Safari as there are many species of snake
and insect. It is recommended that you wear a strong walking
boot when on Safari, especially when viewing the Big 5.

SAFETY
Q: How safe is South Africa?
A: Many Game Parks, Hotels have security
personnel and safety is of paramount importance, even so, it is
wise to take certain standard security precautions. Ask the
place of accommodation to place your valuables and passport in
the safe. Most will have personalised safes in the main bedroom.
Always keep a record of your passport number, airline tickets
and travellers cheques, and ensure that these items are kept in
a safe place. Don’t ever leave baggage or personal items
unattended as petty thieves are always looking for an easy
opportunity.
Don’t throw your cigarettes into the
African veld when on Safari. The bush is very dry and fires
cause major damage and can kill the wildlife
Don’t throw litter whilst on your African
vacation as animals can choke and die. Keep South Africa
clean, just like your home
Don’t try to imitate animal sounds or
make fast movements, besides that the animals may run away,
they could attack you and spoil your Adventure in Africa
Don’t leave your Big Five Game
accommodation at night as the African Wildlife are looking
for their meal in the romantic African evening

SOUTH AFRICAN SEASONS & CLIMATIC
TEMPERATURES
Q:
Which are the best months to visit South
Africa?
A: Exotic South Africa has a fabulous climate,
Tropical on the East Coast next to the Indian Ocean and with
sunshine almost year-round and rain in spring, September to
February. The Western Cape, with its Mediterranean climate, is
the exception, getting its rain in winter.
On
the interior plateau, (called the Highveld), the altitude of
Johannesburg is approximately 1 700 metres, so the average
daytime summer temperatures is about 30 degrees Celsius, 86F. In
winter, night-time temperatures can drop to freezing point, in
some places lower, which is perfect for the ideal romantic
African Honeymoon. The night skies are unique and only can be
seen in exotic Africa while on vacation.
Being in the southern hemisphere, our seasons stand in
opposition to those of Europe and North America, and many Safari
Honeymooners leave their cold shores for our warm and romantic
weather and spend Christmas on the beach, while on their exotic
African Honeymoon in South Africa.
Amazingly enough the high mountains of the Cape and the
Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal usually get snow in winter!!
Snuggle up at one of South Africa’s world class mountain resorts
and view the beautiful mountain ranges and fauna and flora when
on your Safari Honeymoon.
Excellent fly fishing and horseback riding facilities should you
want a break from viewing the South African Big five and self
drive tours whether you are on a long range rifle hunting safari
or on a romantic African honeymoon away from the crowds at
Cancun, Belize or Disney World.
The best time of the year to view the Big Five and other African
wildlife when on Safari is during winter (May – August) in the
northern regions and during summer (September – April) in the
southern regions. Summer temperatures range from 24°C/75° to
33°C/91°F and days are hot and generally sunny in the morning
with possible afternoon thunderstorms.
In winter, the days are sunny, dry and cool, even getting rather
warm while evening temperatures drop sharply; temperatures
range from 7°C/44°F to 23°C/73°F. Please note that very cold
spells do happen, but this is the exception.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Q:
Besides the Big
Five, what else can I photograph when on my South African
vacation?
A: Safaris
offer many excellent photographic opportunities. South Africa is
blessed with a multitude of Fauna and Flora, Fish and Insect
species, Two Oceans, Mountains, World Heritage sites, World
Class Golf courses, amazing variety of cultures and people.
It is recommended
that you use a telephoto lens (at least 80-300mm in size) for
the photography of birds and game, as well as a wide-angle lens.
The best time to view the Big Five and other African Wildlife
when on you luxury tented Safari is in the early morning or late
afternoon, as this is the time they mainly eat and drink at the
watering holes in the exotic African veldt. A high-speed film
(200/400ASA) should be used. Film and batteries are usually
available, but it is advisable that you purchase film, bulbs and
batteries prior to your departure to the African veldt when on
Safari.
A
lens hood and ultra-violet filter are advisable and a good bag
for your equipment including a dust cover (plastic bag) is
